Kimani Maruge film to be screened at Venice Film Festival


Kenya’s oldest primary school student- the late Kimani Maruge's bravery to get an education will be celebrated in the film- First Grader.

The biographical film about the 84–year-old student will be screened for the first time at the 67th Venice Film Festival that kicks off on September 1 and runs through to September 11.

The movie, stars British actress Naomie Harris (crazy witch in Pirates of the Caribbean)and Kenyan actors and stars- Oliver Litondo, John Sibi-Okumu, Dan 'Churchill' Ndambuki, Lydia Gitachu, Mumbi Kaigwa, Ainea Ojiambo, Abubakar Mwenda, Melvin Alusa, Charles Ouda, Gilbert K. Lukalia and Michael Oyier.

In addition to the Venice premiere, First Grader has already been accepted for the London Film Festival in November.
