Michael C. Hall Wanted To Keep Cancer A Secret

Dexter star Michael C. Hall only opened up about his cancer diagnosis because he feared a public appearance at an awards show would give away his secret. The actor was diagnosed with Hodgkin's lymphoma last year.

The disease is in remission but he is continuing with treatment. He kept the news away from his Dexter co-stars, but finally revealed all about his cancer battle last week. And Hall, who wore a woolly black cap at the Golden Globe Awards on Sunday, admits he felt obliged to open up about his illness because he didn't want fans to be shocked when he arrived on the red carpet.

He tells USA Today, "It's a personal matter and to be completely frank, I had every intention of keeping it quiet. Because the award shows were imminent, I figured I would make a statement. It was also nice to make a statement at the point in my treatment that I did, where I was able to assure people that I am really on the road to recovery. I'm doing fine."

Hall walked away with the Golden Globe honor for Best Actor in a TV Series/Drama at Sunday's glitzy bash.
