Kiss 100's Nokia C3 Promotion

I read The Star this week and found out that The Kiss 100 team was going all out with the Nokia C3: They had a plan to sell Nokia C3s for 5000/- bob at certain Safaricom dealers.

Basically You had to listen to Kiss 100 and wait for presenters to tell you where this amazing and unbelievable deal was going down, and then rush like a mad person to that location;once the presenter in question had been spotted, the phones would sell for 5000/-.

So when i bumped into Kalekye at Sarit I wasn't too surprised as i had heard Lynda stating that Kalekye would be heading there (I had heard Caroline and Larry in the morning prompting listeners to head to Moi Avenue as Jalango would be heading there for the mad giveaway)I politely inquired if she was ready.

Which is when she told me to peer down the ramp to the Safaricom outlet, and i nearly died of shock-it was only 11.15 and the line of customers was snaking it's way up the ramp!! Eager beavers had been skulking around since 9am- (I spoke to Wairumi who said she had been there since 6.30 in the morning!!WHAT????).

The lovely Nokia people and safaricom handlers guided us in to shouts of "Kalekye' "Kiss 100 wameingia" "si unipatie Hiyo Nokia C3" and the love, desperation and excitement was thick in the air.

My jaw had initially dropped as I had never seen so many people in such a small pace all clamoring for limited amounts of the hand-set!! Age, race, ethnicity, nor gender mattered as everyone jostled to get their phones.

In we went and as Kalekye organized the crowd by telling them anyone who shoved, pushed or rushed in uncouthly would not be tolerated, the Safcom and Nokia guys were busy stringing last minute details together.

The doors then opened and in rushed the crowd as organized as could be!!

Thank you's were uttered as happy customers left the store clutching their phones in their bags and beaming the biggest smiles i had ever seen.

And I have to say, this was 1 of the most memorable experiences of my life and Kiss 100 together with Nokia have made media history!!

Rachel Bilson is reportedly re-teaming with The O.C. director Josh Schwartz for a new pilot called Ghost Angels.

The show, which has been picked up by NBC, features Bilson as a young woman who communicates with the dead, and uses the spirits to help guide her life.

Cameron Crowe Divorce

Cameron Crowe is getting divorced.


Crowe's wife, Nancy Wilson, filed for divorce in L.A. citing "irreconcilable differences."

The couple was marred in 1986 and has 10-year-old twin boys. Wilson is asking for joint physical and legal custody of the kids and is also asking for spousal support.

Cameron directed such classics as "Jerry Maguire," "Say Anything" and "Almost Famous." Nancy is the singer/songwriter/guitarist from the band Heart.

I have to admit, i’d never heard of Earth Dance until last year and I had just assumed it was some sort of weird hippy thing where a bunch of people got together to worship Gaia whilst eating vegan food.

I would have never bothered going if it hadn’t been for my friend and DJ Zak who came for an interview in 2009 and changed my perception on it.

Sure Earth Dance is all about joining people from over 300 or more locations to celebrate music, dance and most importantly peace but it’s also about appreciating amazing sets from the best trance, techno and house djs.

EarthDance was conceived in 1996 with the vision to unite the planet through the universal platform of dance and music. And it has actually become the largest synchronized dance event in the world. And if you are like me and born with 2 sets of left feet and no rhythm, and are afraid of letting those wierd robotic movements go, don’t worry, it doesn’t matter because nobody cares.

I have to say there’s nothing more liberating than dancing in an open field with people from all walks and ages.

This year’s Earthdance took place at the Ngong Racecourse on Saturday 18th September and Sunday 19th under the theme ‘Celebrating culture’.

The theme’s aim was to encourage the preservation of cultures across the world. And like every Earth Dance event, a significant portion of the profits will be donated to charity.

And this year the organisers went all out and featured 5 international electronic dance music acts like South Africa’s DeadBeatFM (loved their set)and Digital Divas, Deliriant (and his live set-wow), D-boy from Punkzonjunk (Australia) and Germany’s Orli.

Kenyan greats Drazen, Mikhail Kuzi, Barney Barrow, Jahawi, The Glib, Szabanowicz, Trident Tested and DJ UV were all there playing their wicked sets!! I have to give our local lads props for rocking the earth! Kuzi, Drazen, Szabanowicz and Barney have always been my favourites and I still have their sets in my head, Here’s hoping they organise a 6am party soonest as I am experiencing some serious withdrawal symptoms and am rocking back and forth in the foetal position.

I have to say Jahawi, The Glib, Szabanowicz (BBSA), Trident Tested, FooZak and DJ UV are beyond talented at the magic they spin and I’m hooked to the music 6am and Bound By Sound Africa (BBSA) churn out.

Speaking to Dj Drazen about Earth Dance and what inspired him to join he said: ‘My brother DJ Ohms as he was one of the first guys in Kenya to promote EDM...and for me it’s all about that great feeling you get from the crowd dancing and going crazy when playing EDM. The feeling is overwhelming! We joined Earthdance because we felt that it was the perfect way to give our lovely Kenyan brothers and sisters a different experience whilst raising money for charity”.

Barney Barrow on the other hand said he loves Earthdance and agreed to weave his magic “for the love of music and for my fans! I love this stuff”.

Another noteworthy point is that underage kids were minimal as it was a strictly 18-and- over party.

In fact I still get excited at being carded as it’s always flattering when bouncers think you look underage when you are as old as the hills.

Support the next Earthdance and definitely head to the next 6am party that’s thrown-I promise you won’t regret it. Ask Kenyan musician and producer- BaMzigi who danced the night away with me.

Drew Barrymore goes Bollywood!

Drew Barrymore has reportedly signed up to play a role in a Bollywood film.

The US actress has joined the cast of The Lifestyle, directed by Santosh Kumar Jain, .

Jain liked her performance in Charlie's Angels and decided to cast her in his film.

he film is about three women from different walks of life, trying to assert their identities and Drew plays the role of a foreigner in the film.

The other two heroines will be top Indian actresses-no word yet on who they will be.

Filming on the project is expected to begin in November, with producers looking at a 2012 release.

OK Go is no stranger to making viral hits out of their music videos. Who can forget their treadmill video- 'Here it goes again'??? I loved it and everytime i needed a laugh i'd press play.

Now through coordination and countless takes, the band has made a new visual spectacle with their single-shot movies incorporating dogs in their new Vid -'White knuckles".

Before you go all PETA on OK Go, it's important to note that these dogs are rescue pups from a local shelter and the band is urging fans to donate to their area shelter for animals. Also, they will be selling a video with proceeds going to ASPCA (American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals).

Jlo faces drama on AI thanks to her idiot ex

So Jlo is the newest judge on American Idol, but it hasn't started out all peachy.

Her ex-husband Ojani Noa was hoping to embarrass his ex in Los Angeles on Wednesday, as she makes her debut as a judge on the show, by showing up for try-outs at the Forum.

Noa has been to bugger off because he won't be welcomed.

Producers are determined not to embarrass Lopez and they've reportedly hired 'screeners' to make sure Noa doesn't slip past security - even if he's in disguise.

They insist they're justified in barring him from the competition because, at 36, he's well past the "Idol" cut-off age of 28.

A source close to Noa tells WENN, "Fox and 'Idol' producer Nigel Lythgoe have made their intentions clear to the media that Fox intends to block Ojani Noa's audition for 'American Idol,' and to sue if Ojani Noa does show up to audition for 'American Idol.'

"Our response is that the FCC (Federal Communications Commission) & Congress should investigate whether 'American Idol' is truly a real game show, or just another phony game show."

Noa's business partner Ed Meyer insists Fox bosses and 'Idol' producers can't ban the former waiter from the show, simply because he's too old.

He explains, "In the past, the first two episodes of each season of 'American Idol' are always phony, as they let anyone of any age audition to get viewership numbers - for example the 62-year-old 'Pants on the Ground' guy (Larry Platt)."

Lopez and Noa are currently embroiled in a bitter court battle after the singer/actress won a bid to block Noa from releasing a film about his life because it reportedly contained raunchy footage of her.

Gwyneth Paltrow is in discussions to join GLEE!!

She will be singing and dancing and will act as a love interest of sorts for Matthew Morrison's character, Will Schuester.

Gwyneth will play a substitute teacher in two episodes airing in November. Mr. Schuester gets sick, so Gwyneth's character steps in and takes over the glee club. The kids love her, and Will starts to fall for her...complicating his relationship with Emma (Jayma Mays).



If it all comes together, Ryan Murphy will be directing her first episode, which begins shooting in two weeks.

Katy Perry has fallen in love with Elmo after filming a Hot N Cold duet with him for Sesame Street. Perry is shown chasing Elmo around fairs and city streets in a game of tag.

Gabourey Sidibe controversy in ELLE

If The Devil Wears Prada taught us anything, it's that you don't mess with an editrix.

Elle's editor-in-chief Robbie Myers isn't holding back about the so-called controversy surrounding her magazine and the rumors it purposely lightened Gabourey Sidibe's skin for its new cover,saying that her skin was "absolutely not" changed and that she is "sad" over the accusations.

Sidibe is one of four stars featured on different covers for the magazine's 25th anniversary issue, along with Megan Fox, Amanda Seyfried and Lauren Conrad, who are all featured in full-length shots. Plus-size Sidibe's cover photo was cropped mid-chest .

But Myers calls the shot "incredible," saying she "loves" Gabourey and that's simply the way it works for studio shots.

She emphasized, "We absolutely did not lighten her skin. Retouching is when we take a piece of hair and move it out of her eye, so you can't compare a picture on a press line from what you do in a studio, where your job is to make them look beautiful. This is their controversy. We've seen these things before. I am sad that no one has cracked the magazine and looked at it. We gave her a cover, and she loved it."

Baaba Maal in kenya soon

Senegalese singer Baaba Maal will be in Nairobi for an exclusive recording and live performance for the BBC-World Service Trust on September 28.

Maal will also be in conversation with the BBC's Tom Japanni on the power of media and communication in development in Africa. The function shall be hosted at the Louis Leakey Auditorium from 7:30pm – 9:30pm.

Sacha b Cohen to play Freedie Mercury

In what could be one of the more inspired castings we've heard about in quite some time, Sacha Baron Cohen has signed on to star as Queen frontman Freddie Mercury in a movie about the legendary rock band.

The flick doesn't have a director yet, but...

Producers have announced filming is set to begin sometime next year.

The pic, which will be scripted by Frost/Nixon and The Queen writer Peter Morgan, will follow the band from its early years to its performance at Live Aid in 1985, six years before Mercury died from AIDS complications at age 45.

What about the music?

GK Films and Tribeca Productions have reportedly secured rights to Queen's most famous tunes, including "We Are the Champions," "Bohemian Rhapsody," "We Will Rock You," "Another One Bites the Dust" and "You're My Best Friend," according to Deadline New York, which first reported the casting.

GaGa campaigns for gay army rights

Lady GaGa has posted a message on YouTube in a bid to overturn a law that affects the rights of gays and lesbians in the army.

The singer posted several messages on Twitter asking fans to campaign against the 'Don't Ask, Don't Tell' law, which forces soldiers to keep their sexuality secret.

Although vote is being held next week to scrap the law, GaGa is protesting against Senator John McCain, who plans to obstruct the motion.

She has since posted a message on YouTube, which shows the star dressed in a suit, sitting in front on an American flag.

GaGa gave several accounts of soldiers she had personally contacted who were kicked out of the US army after being outed by other members in the force.

After calling her local senators to no avail, she said: "I will not stop calling until I reach them and I can leave them this message.




"My name is Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta, also known as Lady GaGa. I'm calling the Senators... to repeal 'Don't Ask, Don't Tell' and oppose John McCain's shameless filibuster".

She tweeted: "Anyone qualified to serve this country should be allowed to do so. We were born this way."

Lady GaGa has reportedly become the world's most searched-for woman on the internet.

According to the latest edition of the Guinness World Records, the popstar has taken the top spot from former US vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin.

Michael Jackson was also recently named the most searched-for male on the web.

Depp and Richards spotted partying together!!

Johnny Depp and Rolling Stones guitarist Keith Richards are bossom buddies and were just spotted leaving a London Restaurant together.

Oprah's trip 100% free

So Oprah gave away trips to Australia to 300 people and Larry Edema -- who was selected to be in the audience that day said Winfrey had a certified public accountant on hand to address the tax issue right after the taping.

All taxes associated with the trip would be "handled by the Oprah show," so the trip would truly be 100% free.

O would cover all sightseeing costs and travel-related expenses -- including passport costs for people who can't afford them.

It's a big change from Oprah's 2004 controversy -- when she famously gave away brand new cars, but saddled audience members with as much as $7,000 in gift taxes.

Kim Kardashian and lady gaga are dolls

Lady Gaga and Kim Kardashian have threatened legal action against a doll-making company, demanding staff stop producing inflatable sex toys based on their looks.

Kardashian's attorney Shawn Chapman Holley has fired off a letter to Pipedream Products, Inc., which offers a number of celebrity-styled blow-up dolls.

The lawyer has demanded that company bosses stop production of the Kinky Kim Filthy Love Doll - which is described as a "busty bubble-butt bimbo" - because it violates Kardashian's rights.

But a spokesperson for Pipedream Products tells TMZ.com, "The similarity between the Kinky Kim doll and Ms. Kardashian is purely coincidental."

Meanwhile Gaga's reps have reportedly threatened a copyright infringement lawsuit against the company, forcing bosses to remove the Gaga-style doll from their website.

Probably want her dressed weirdly or in meat....

Natasha Meto works day and night to cinch Miss World Title!

The recently crowned Miss World Kenya Natasha Meto is working day and night to prepare for her departure to China at the end of tyhis month for the Miss World competition to be held in Sanyu on October the 31st .

The 20 year old beauty queen who turns 21 next month says she will do her very best to bring the title back to Kenya although she adds the trip to China is expensive and she would appreciate any form of sponsorship help that would come her way …….All the best to Natasha

Cassie dumps Diddy

We’ve all known why Cassie has been dating P Diddy but it now seems she’s finally dumped her benefactor oops I meant boyfriend.

As reported in the past, while with Cassie, Diddy was still romantically involved with DOZENS of women, including two of his baby mothers, Kim Porter and Sarah Chapman.

It took a while, but Cassie's FINALLY getting a backbone and has realized she can’t have him to herself as his ego will always be no 1 and so she’s let him go.
