Gaga dominates MTV VMAs

Pop's leading Lady took the MTV Video Music Awards by storm and picked up a staggering eight awards.

Lady Gaga won her first two awards - for Best Dance Video and Best Collaboration - before the show even started. They were presented to her on the red carpet outside the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles.

She then claimed the event's first honour for Best Female Video ("Bad Romance") and appeared overcome with emotion as she stepped up to the stage in a gown designed for her by late style icon Alexander McQueen.

Gaga first addressed her fans, stating, "Tonight Little Monsters, we're the cool kids at the party." She also thanked McQueen for "sending me all the beautiful clothes for my video," and added, "Thank you to all the gays for remaking this video over and over again."

The pop star, who set a new record at the event by landing the most nominations for any artist with 13, also picked up prizes for Best Pop Video and the event's biggest accolade, Video of the Year.

She also swept the night's 'professional' awards - her "Bad Romance" video picked up honours for Best Choreography, Best Direction and Best Editing.

She closed her amazing night by announcing the title of her new album, "Born This Way," and singing a few lines from the title track.
